Arriving in Windhoek by airplane you get a first impression of Namibia's endless landscape and bizarre patterns in the red sand. The country is relatively unpopulated with its 2 million inhabitants. The former colony of German South West Africa is a country of contrasts. You will find the highest dune on earth, the second largest canyon, the oldest plant (Welwitschia mirabilis) and the oldest desert. Plants and animals have adapted to the harsh environment. Some might say Namibia is not particularly welcoming,
yet those looking for something different, something special, will discover that this country has its own magic. Apart from proud peoples such as the Hereros or Himbas, you will also find German influences on architecture and lifestyle. Visit Christ Church in Windhoek or the Old Fortress and try some typical German cake ("Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte"). Since the declaration of Independence in 1991, Windhoek, Nambia's capital, has undergone some major changes. You will find yourself in a modern and lively city of 230.000 inhabitants.
The farm Otjitoroa is located in the middle of the rolling hills of Namibia's savanna in the district of Otjiwarongo. The name Otjitoroa stands for "chosen place" in the language of the Herero. The farm house, built in colonial style in 1904, is situated on a small hill. As the surrounding farmland, it lies 1200m above sea level. Walking around the house on the veranda you will be able to watch animals drinking at the standpipe. Thus, there will be plenty of opportunity to take pictures of ostriches with their chicks, springboks, warthogs, striped gnus, kudu and oryx before dawn and just before dusk.
Otjitoroa is a registered guest- and game farm. Inside the farm house, 3 individually styled double bed rooms with shower/WC will make you feel relaxed and at home.
Just a few feet away from the farm house, you reach the lapa, an open thatched building with bar and barbeque. From here or from the edge of the pool, you may enjoy a 360 degree view onto all of the farm land whilst forgetting about your worries and your stress. You will also start feeling as laid back and easy going as the natives. During cloudless nights, there are thousands of stars to be discovered in the darkness. Can you see the Southern Cross?
At the farm house mobile service, Wifi and 21 German TV chanels are available.
"After having travelled Namibia from the far south up to Etosha National Park in the north for 17 days in October 2012, we spent a marvelous week hunting at Henning Kruse-Scholtissek's hunting farm Otjitoroa. The familiar atmosphere pleased us very much. Thanks to Henning's professional guiding, our hunting was very successful. Due to many helping hands of staff members like Isabel in the kitchen and Ludwig, Metusa, Gerhard and Filemon taking care of the cattle and handling the meat, we felt very much at home. Thanks to all of you. We will always gladly remember our impressive time in Namibia and we will definitely come back one day."

Anyone coming to Namibia has to visit Swakopmund, Namibia's “German city„ on the Atlantic coast. From Swakop or from Walvis Bay, you may depart on boat cruises. These offer the opportunity to watch dolphins, seals and pelicans or experience the richness of the Atlantic sea when fishing. The city itself offers a mineral gallery, a museum of local history and an aquarium. Take a stroll around the various shops and get any African souvenir you wish for. To round off an interesting day in Swakop, try some of the excellent fish specialties or a juicy steak accompanied by some delicious wine- Namibia at its finest.
By Namibian standards, Etosha, Namibia's biggest national park is just a stone's throw away. In less than 2 hours you reach Okaukuejo at the park entrance. This National Reservation is one of the oldest in the world as it was established in 1907. On 22.270 km² of bush and grass savanna you will have the outstanding opportunity to watch zebras, elephants, giraffes, impalas, springboks, striped gnus, oryx, elands, kudus, ostriches, lions, leopards, cheetahs and even rhinos if you get lucky.
Within 1 hour you reach Vingerklip, a rock formation in the shape of a needle which is embedded in a breathtaking terrasse landscape. On a farm located nearby, you may admire easily accessible petroglyphs (drawings on the rocks) and melodious stones.
The Waterberg Plateau is only 1.5 hours away from Otjitoroa. It offers a rich vegetation and many rare species that have been brought here. Take a walk and enjoy the stunning views on the land below the plateau.
